Binding refused

A finished good that is linked to a Shopify variant is tied to one Shopify inventory item — the record Shopify keeps stock against. If that record stops accepting updates, Assemblified can no longer move the finished good’s stock, and it tells you so on the bill itself: a red Shopify refused the last stock update for this finished good banner on the finished good page, and a red Binding refused badge on its row in the finished goods list.

Assemblified sent a stock update for this finished good and Shopify permanently rejected it. That happens for two reasons:

  • The variant was deleted. The product or variant this bill was created against no longer exists in Shopify, so the inventory item it pointed at is gone.
  • Inventory tracking was switched off for the item. Shopify only accepts stock updates for items it is tracking.

The banner quotes Shopify’s own words, so you can see which of the two it is.

  1. Open the finished good and read the reason on the banner.
  2. If tracking was switched off: open the variant in Shopify, switch Track quantity back on.
  3. If the variant was deleted: the binding cannot be repaired — retire this finished good, or create it again against a live variant and rebuild its component list.

The flag is not something you dismiss. The next stock update Shopify accepts for this finished good clears the banner and the badge automatically — so once you have switched tracking back on, or rebound the bill, the warning disappears on the next order, build or synchronize that touches it. Assemblified keeps sending the update on every push; it never skips a flagged bill.

  • Finished goods list — a red “Binding refused” badge beside the name, in every view.
  • The repair tool — support’s binding-repair scan lists flagged bills in their own group (“refused by Shopify — rebind or retire”) so they can be worked through in one pass.
